pfas resources and information

PFAS can be removed from drinking water with on tap reverse osmosis (RO) and granulated activated carbon (GAC) filters.

These filters can be used on water from wells and in municipal water.

many municipalities do not currently treat for pfas, so you're better off filtering pfas out at the tap regardless of your water source.

NOTE: the vast majority of bottled water is municipal water in repackaged and marketed.

Below are some resources explaining PFAS removal in municipal water systems. Currently the focus in the U.S. appears to be a push for more municipal water as opposed to private wells. This shift is generally not necessary nor does it necessarily solve PFAS contamination issues.

For example, if you live in certain parts of Tiverton, and are concerned about PFAS levels in wells, the fastest, best available technology is to get an on-tap reverse osmosis system with GAC filtration. A filter system for a sink is approximately is $200-$300 (with some brands closer to $500), plus roughly $100 in new filters per year. This is less than the cost of buying municipal water, and immediately removes up to 99% of PFAS.
